Gutrace — Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Gutrace mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Important Health Disclaimer
Gutrace provides educational and informational guidance only. It is not a medical device and does not
provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Any “personal triggers,” “impact levels,” or similar outputs are estimates based on the information you provide (including logged symptoms
and reported status such as remission or flare), combined with general dietary guidance and publicly available educational resources relating
to IBS and IBD.
Any food risk scores, ingredient risk levels, recommendations, or IBS/IBD-related insights are educational estimates informed by publicly
available dietary guidance and research. These resources may include materials from recognized health organizations and research institutions,
such as the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, Monash University (Low FODMAP research), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the
American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).
These outputs may change over time as your inputs and circumstances change.
Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice. Do not use the Service in emergencies.
1. About Gutrace
Gutrace helps users interpret food labels and menus by highlighting potential dietary triggers and providing dietary guidance, including “Safety Scores”, “Trigger Ingredients”, and suggested risk levels.
The Service may also offer optional logging tools that allow you to track meals, symptoms, and related context over time.
Some features generate personalized insights (such as personal triggers and impact levels) derived from your recent logs and settings. These insights are intended to help you understand patterns and make informed decisions. They are not medical conclusions, diagnoses, or treatment plans.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
3. Account Required / Associated IDs (Apple / Google / Email)
The Service requires an account to use. Your account is created and accessed through one or more identifiers (each, an “Associated ID”), such as:
- an Apple account identifier (e.g., Sign in with Apple);
- a Google account identifier (e.g., Google Sign-In, including Gmail);
- an email-based identifier (e.g., an email address used to register or sign in); and/or
- purchase identifiers associated with your app store account used to validate subscriptions and entitlements.
To operate the Service and manage settings, history, and subscription access, certain Service data may be associated with your Associated ID(s). If you sign in using a different method (for example, switching from Apple Sign-In to an email login), you may not be able to access the same settings, history, or subscription benefits unless the accounts are linked within the Service.
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by your app store. Where available, you may use your app store’s “Restore Purchases” feature to restore eligible purchases, subject to the app store’s rules and your use of the same app store account.
See our Privacy Policy for details on what we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
4. License and Acceptable Use
4.1 License
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use.
4.2 Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service in violation of applicable laws or regulations;
- Use the Service for emergency situations or as a substitute for professional medical care (call local emergency services when needed);
- Reverse engineer, decompile, attempt to extract source code, or bypass security or usage limits;
- Use automated means (including scripts, bots, or scraping) to access or overload the Service without our authorization;
- Interfere with, disrupt, or compromise the integrity or security of the Service (including by introducing malware); or
- Use the Service to provide regulated professional services to others (including medical or clinical advice) in a manner that requires a license or authorization.
5. Your Inputs and Logs
The Service allows you to provide information such as:
- Food names
- Ingredient lists
- Menu descriptions
- Food or menu images
- Symptom notes
- Status information (e.g., remission or flare)
You are responsible for ensuring your inputs are accurate to the best of your knowledge.
Images may be unclear, incomplete, or may not reflect the full ingredients, portion size, preparation method, or substitutions of a dish.
If your inputs are incomplete or inaccurate (for example, missing portion size, preparation method, ingredients not shown in an image, concurrent foods, medications, stress, or sleep factors), the Service’s outputs may be limited or misleading.
6. Ingredient Analysis, Safety Scores, and Personalization
The Service generates outputs such as ingredient flags, risk indicators, and Safety Scores based on:
- The information you provide
- General dietary heuristics and publicly available dietary guidance
- Your preferences and logging history (if enabled)
These outputs may be generated using automated systems and may not be accurate, complete, or suitable for your specific situation. Food responses vary widely between individuals and may change over time.
Menus and labels may be incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated. Preparation methods, cross-contact, portion size, and additives may alter a food’s effect and may not be knowable to the Service.
The Service cannot confirm whether a food is allergen-free, pathogen-free, or safe in all circumstances.
6.1 Personal Triggers and Impact Levels
If logging and personalization features are enabled, the Service may display “personal triggers” derived from your recent logs.
“Impact levels” are estimated using patterns in the symptom information you record, which may include:
- Symptom count
- Symptom severity or intensity
- Time-to-onset after eating
- Your reported status (e.g., remission or flare)
These are probabilistic pattern-based estimates and may change over time as your logs and circumstances change. They are not medical determinations and do not predict outcomes with certainty.
7. Subscriptions and Purchases
Some features may require a subscription or in-app purchase. Payments are processed through your app store (such as Apple App Store or Google Play). Pricing, renewal terms, and cancellation policies are controlled by the app store and displayed at checkout. Subscriptions may automatically renew unless canceled through your app store settings before the renewal date. Refund requests are handled according to the app store’s policies.
8. Third-Party Services and App Stores
8.1 Third-Party AI Processing (with your permission)
The Service includes AI-powered features that may use third-party AI services to analyze your food or menu inputs. By accepting these Terms and using the AI analysis features, you authorize us to transmit the data described below to our third-party AI provider for the purpose of generating the requested analysis.
If you choose to use these AI features, the Service may transmit the following data to the AI provider solely to generate the requested analysis:
- Food or menu images you upload or capture;
- Text you submit for analysis (such as food names, ingredient lists, or menu descriptions);
- Limited context necessary to complete the request (for example, your selected analysis settings or language).
We do not send your password credentials to any third-party AI provider. Any data transmitted is used to provide the requested feature.
AI Provider: Google Gemini API (Google) for food analysis.
8.2 Image Storage and Processing Infrastructure
To operate the Service, we may store and process food images and related data using cloud infrastructure. In particular:
- Google Cloud Storage (Google) may be used to store food or menu images required for the Service (for example, for processing, caching, or user history where enabled).
- Our backend services are hosted on Google Cloud Run (Google) to relay requests and deliver results.
8.3 Authentication and Purchase Verification
We use third-party services to authenticate users and validate purchases:
- Keycloak (OpenID Connect) is used for authentication. The Service may store a JWT token securely on your device to maintain your session.
- For subscriptions purchased via the Apple App Store, our backend may process Apple transaction identifiers to verify your subscription status.
8.4 Local Storage and Networking Libraries
The Service may use local device storage and networking libraries (for example, Dio, Hive, and Flutter Secure Storage) to enable app functionality. These components support app operations and do not independently collect user data outside the Service’s normal operation.
8.5 Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect data in transit and at rest, including:
- HTTPS/TLS for network transmission;
- Secure device storage (iOS Keychain via Flutter Secure Storage) for session tokens.
We do not use custom encryption algorithms.
8.6 Your Choices
If you do not want your inputs to be processed by a third-party AI provider, you should not use the AI-powered features. Because third-party AI processing is required to provide core analysis functionality, disabling AI analysis (where available) will make the Service’s core analysis features unavailable, and the Service will not send new inputs for AI processing while disabled.
9. Health & Food Safety Disclaimers
9.1 Not Medical Advice
The Service does not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider regarding medical conditions, symptoms, diet, or treatment decisions.
9.2 Not for Emergencies
If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.
9.3 Food Preparation and Allergies
The Service cannot verify how food is prepared or handled.
Even if ingredients appear “safe,” foods may contain allergens, cross-contamination, hidden ingredients, or substitutions. If you have food allergies or require strict avoidance, confirm ingredients directly with manufacturers or restaurants and follow your clinician’s guidance.
9.4 No Guarantees
We do not guarantee that any Safety Score, recommendation, personal trigger, impact level, or other output is accurate or that consuming a food will be safe for you. You assume all risk arising from your food choices and reliance on the Service.
10. General Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.”
We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:
- Indirect or consequential damages
- Loss of data or profits
- Reliance on Safety Scores, recommendations, personal triggers, or impact levels
- Unauthorized access to systems
- Third-party services
Our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising from your misuse of the Service, your User Inputs, or violation of these Terms.
13. Changes to the Service or Terms
We may update the Service or these Terms. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
